iPhone thoughts

So I've had a few days to use this thing now, what's the verdict?
Well, obviousy, I love it. Even without the phone capabilities, this is an awesome device. Everyone I show it to goes mental. The cover flow, the quality of the video playback, all those things. The photo resizing - everyone looks like it does in the video, which is incredible.
The keyboard - I find it very easy to use. I have faily nimble, if pudgy fingers, and can happily bash out emails and web addresses on it without too many problems at all. Google Maps is awesome - if you can find Wifi wherever it is you want to be.
I love the fact that if you have a video podcast, you can also listen to just the audio through the iPod function - that means I can watch Diggnation on the Underground, then switch it to just audio when I'm walking around. That saves me having to have both the MP3 and the iPod video stream on the iPhone.
The volume slider on the side is very useful. Just being able to quickly up and down the volume without having to slide open the phone is very handy.
I love the new earbuds - what great sound quality. But - and this is a big one - I can barely get them to stay in my ears. It's like my ear lugs are too big, they just slide out all the time. Dammit.
Otherwise, I'm really liking it and using it all the time. It's also useful to just bust out in a coffee shop to check mail or a quick web address or something rather than bothering with a laptop.
Great stuff. Now to get it unlocked...

The iphone headphone jack is a normal 3.5mm headphone jack (but with the connections needed for the mic), but rather annoyingly it's recessed into the case so you'll need an adapter to use your SHURE's. Belkin do an adapter for $11 US.
Glad you're enjoying it, even without the phone. Once I got mine activated (with service, mind you, none of this DVD Jon nonsense you're pulling), I was thrilled. I don't bother bringing my laptop into work with me anymore and can get past the corporate firewall via EDGE to boot.
The recessed earphone socket is really annoying me, almost as much as Shure only having a half-assed solution for a headset (a $50 dongle). I'd rather like to be able to use my E2Cs with it and keep my clicky button for taking calls and pausing/advancing the song, but spending more at the moment on either the cheap Beklin thing (losing mic/button entirely) or the more expensive upcoming Shure device doesn't sit well with me. For now, it's the white buds - and I am happier with them than previous iBuds.
i've got 2 pair's of shure's and cannot use them on the iphone without the adapter. kind of a pain. got the main ipod for that i guess. i purchased the monster adapter at the apple store for $20 and it works great. congrats on the iphone wil...
and the engagement!
Congrats on the engagement (from a TWiT listener).
Tim
hey I listen to you all the time on twit and came across your blog by accident....
keep up the good work.

Nice one mate, I'd loved it!
Thanks for letting me have a play - I've now got a friend from Google in the US shipping me one over.
Quick question:
Is the earphone socket standard?
This worries me as you say headphones are not good.
I have some SHURE headphones that came with a T-Shirt that says "My earphones cost more than your iPod" - in fact they are about the same price as an 8GB iphone, so I would not want to throw them away!
Should I cancel my order??
